Shade, Smirks, & Zingers

I’m too through. I should have watched some old episodes of Parks & Recreation rather than trying to watch this hot mess of a debate. To quote my fellow CF, watching this debate was like watching Jim Lehrer try to herd cats. Bless his heart; he needs to go have several seats and throw in the towel on being a moderator.

Also, maybe it was a mistake to watch the debate with my mama. She basically yelled at Gov. Mittens for 90 minutes.

In any event, what follows are my thoughts jotted down during and right after the debate.

My thoughts regarding Mittens:

-Why is your flag pin so big? Stop being so fucking obvious.

-You over talking everyone like you don’t have no damn sense. But some folks will actually think that you argued better. Style over substance, I guess.

-Why do you want to fire Big Bird? We all know that it’s Bert and Ernie who are the real threat. Damn Communists.

My thoughts regarding the president:

-Why do you talk so damn slow? You know our attention spans are short.

-I appreciate you being calm and collected, but damn homie, rhetoric and style matter. At the same time, I recognize that if you go ham on Romniferous you’ll be just be an angry negro. You can’t win. It’s a Sisyphean battle.

-Were you trying to take the high road by not talking about the 47% ? It didn’t work. Remind everyone that Romney gives very few %#$@ about most Americans.

On a more serious tip, I’m not sure how productive this debate ultimately was. Romney was smirking and generally being a condescending rich white man, and while President Obama was giving us some good professor shade, he was also getting filibustered severely. Plus, the fact that neither candidate discussed women’s health, LGBTQ issues, immigration, and other pressing matters, though unfortunately not surprising, was a major fail.

What are your thoughts on the first debate, fam?

  1. I couldn’t agree more. I yelled at the tele throughout the debate too. Unsure if I’ll watch the next debate, my blood pressure can’t stand it.

  2. I watched Avengers for the eight time instead and shook my head at the voice of my partner screaming at the television in the next room. Waste of space.

  3. I gave up watching the season premiere of Supernatural to watch the debate, only to turn it off after an hour. I could’ve had a V8. And explain to me how this moderator has “handled” 12 debates. He didn’t handle anything last night.

    1. Bad choice! I watched Supernatural – much more entertaining and didn’t raise my blood pressure.

  4. There was a debate last night? I’m less ashamed of the on-stage behavior than I was that it was allowed to even be called a ‘debate.’ Obama seemed to be phoning it in, and R-Money lied as usual. The biggest enemies of Romney’s thesis are Google and a calculator.

  5. Chile I couldn’t agree more. Mitt was overly agressive and repetitave and Obama needed to be more aggressive. It was a shame that this morning on my local news most people were declaring Romey won hands down. I feel that the debate accomplished nothing.

  6. Yeah Barry was off his game sorry to say. But like you said, he can’t win for losing. If he’d gone to town on OvenMitt we’d be hearing aaaaalll about that Angry Black Man this morning. And this being the first time I actually saw/heard Mittens speak for any length of time and, well all I can say was I was freaked out a bit by his whole look, sound and attitude. He was scary enough on paper.

I have no idea if debates will help any folks still undecided or whatever we are supposed to be using these debates for. I think last nite was a waste of time and money and Jim needs to retire. I was in the comedy chat room watching on HuffPo Live – and someone suggested that Wanda Sykes would be a much better moderator.

Yes I think so. There was no moderating going on and Mittens showed his bullying self but you know its going to look all forceful and presidential to those who don’t know any better *smdh*

  7. I felt so bad for the moderator right of the bat. We started calling him Piglet. Honestly I was upset I stayed awake for this. I have a paper due. . .

  8. Chile…..they could have gotten Andy Cohen to do a better job of moderating. He would have gotten them both together.

I needed Obama to at least mention the 47% in passing….sad really….maybe he was distracted because yesterday was him and Michelle’s 20th anniversary.

Real talk: I cannot wait for the VP debate. Biden is a fool (b/c he can be…his shenanigans wont be attributed to his race) and Ryan is creepy…..and the black woman who usually moderates the VP debates knows what shes doing.

  9. Yes, I was angry both at the President for appearing too calm in the face of Rawmoney’s continual lying and flip-floping and because Rawmoney’s churlish appearance and dismissal of the moderator was totally unnecessary. I too screamed (YOU LIE) everytime Rawmoney’s lips were moving and felt pretty much emotionally spent by the time it was all over.

  10. 1 Moderator needs to retire…2 President was tired and exhuasted quite understand…3 Romney cutting PBS and you have five sons that you proably had watching Sesame Street WOW! 4 please talk about issue of the working poor we pay taxes too…5 MAY GOD BLESS THIS NATION…
